What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine which involves treating the individual with highly diluted substances, with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing. Based on the patient's specific symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to each patient.

'Like with like'

Homeopathy is based on the principle that you can treat ‘like with like’. That is, a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms. So a substance that causes the symptoms of disease in healthy people will cure similar symptoms in sick peopleFor example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation, so according to this principle, when made into a homeopathic medicine, it could be used to treat insomnia or sleep disturbances.

Homeopathic medication is safe to be taken most people of all ages, from newborns to elderly. In most cases is it safe to use homeopathic medication alongside allopathic medication as a concurrent treatment. There are little to no harmful side effects of this form of treatment, but it is important to consult your homeopath before taking remedies for specific ailments.

A homeopathic consultation involves case taking and physical examination as with any medical practitioner. Remedies are then dispensed based on the overall 'symptom picture' taking all aspects of both the ailment and the patient into consideration.
